For Christmas this year (yeah, we celebrated a little early) my lovely wife bought me a very cool SCOTTeVEST (SeV). These stylish jackets would not look out of place on any snowboarder or sullen teenager yet are a wonderful bit of clothing for your favorite geek.

The SeV (taking advantage of the “SUV” craze?) is rife with nooks and crannies for all your favorite gear. Most pockets can be accessed from both inside and outside the clothing. There are also built-in channels to route wires for your own PAN (personal area network).

Okay… here’s the story…

I was looking for a small toy, a puzzle-type thing that really has no purpose other than to entertain your fingers (I have several in my office, they’re fun). So I searched for hand toy… I just found “Hand-made wooden toys”.

When I searched for “Hand Amusement” I stuck gold: “Second Hand Amusement Park Rides!” A new roller coaster is going on my Christmas list.

The truly amazing thing, however, is my searches didn’t net me any accidental porn sites.

Trepia™ is an interesting twist on chat clients. Instead of having a buddy list of friends, Trepia™ searches for buddies based on proximity. People in your buddy list won’t be friends you already know, they will be the people logged in who are physically closest to you.

Here’s how Trepia™ describes their technology:

Trepia™ performs a Progressive Proximity search for nearby people using known geographical information about the networks you use. It searches from the inside out, first adding people local to you, then branching out to others.

Sounds cool, right? All I want to know is: how do they plan to make money?

Sure, perhaps the Yo-Yo hasn’t been cool since the ’50s but there are still some people into it… and some have mad skilz (see, use the right lingo and it’s cool again). CSS Zen Garden

I’ve known for a while that CSS is a powerful tool for keeping a flexible design for my web site but I had no freakin’ idea how powerful it can be! If you would like to get a taste of the future you must go visit the CSS Zen Garden.

The first time I visited the Zen Garden page all I could say was day-UM! (with a capital UM). I had absolutely no idea you could get that crazy with CSS. I am way way WAY behind the times when it comes to CSS. Well, looks like I need to find a good CSS book… any suggestions?
